Yves Saint Laurent & Anthony Vaccarello

#Yves Saint Laurent

In my latest project, I had the opportunity to analyze Anthony Vaccarello's spring 2023 YSL collection and compare it to three different time periods. Through my research, I discovered that there are striking similarities between these time periods, particularly in terms of their focus on empowering women and reflecting cultural and political influences. The collection's recurring tubular silhouette has also been interpreted in various ways by different designers over time.

Despite these similarities, there were also significant differences in each period's interpretation of the tubular silhouette and empowerment theme. For instance, the 1920s were marked by economic influences, while the 1980s saw significant social change. Ancient Greece, on the other hand, offered historical references that shaped the designs.

Through this analysis, I learned that fashion is not created in a vacuum, but rather is influenced by the social, cultural, and historical contexts in which it exists. As we look to the future, it is clear that elements of empowerment dressing will continue to be incorporated into fashion, and designers like Vaccarello will push the boundaries of modern fashion by experimenting with unconventional materials and further innovating the tubular silhouette. It will be exciting to see how this design evolves and reflects the values and concerns of our current cultural and political climate.
